Collection: Furniture

Almost everything in this collection is vintage, sourced directly rather than reproduced - mostly mid-century Italian, chosen for character and provenance rather than a catalogue number.

Vittorio Dassi and Luciano Frigerio, working in Italy through the 1940s to '60s, are represented here in rosewood and palissandro - sideboards, cabinets, a wall-mounted parete attrezzata - the warm-toned cabinetry that defined a generation of Italian interiors. Pierre Vandel's Paris workshop supplies the 1970s side of the same lineage: brass-anodised aluminium and glass, a cooler, more architectural register from the following decade. And Willy Rizzo - a photographer who shot Bardot, Monroe and Dalí before he ever designed a chair - turned to furniture in the late 1960s because he couldn't find what he wanted for his own Rome apartment, then built a workshop near the Via Veneto that supplied an international set with chrome, brass and burl wood for a decade.

Further east, Sumphat Gallery works with artisan communities across Thailand, translating traditions like the centuries-old Bungamas - a ceremonial brass tree - into contemporary objects, cast and finished entirely by hand.

Every piece carries the wear of the life it has already had. That is not a flaw to be restored away; it is most of the reason to want it.
