Walnut Shampoo
Walnut Shampoo
Antica Barbieria Colla
Antica Barbieria Colla has been Milan's barbershop since 1904, still run today by the Bompieri family.
The recipe is from 1924 - the year Dino Colla formulated several of the house's founding shampoos, each built around a single ingredient's particular properties. This one, made for oily hair, is built around walnut: astringent, sebum-balancing, a corrective that works with the scalp rather than against it.
At some point in the mid-twentieth century, a popular Milanese songwriter became a devoted client. When production of the Walnut Shampoo was interrupted for a period, he complained directly to Bompieri - threatening to break the strict dress code of the time and arrive at Via Gerolamo Morone in tennis shoes, a shoe to which he had recently dedicated a song. Production resumed.
Used regularly, it normalises sebum production without drying, and keeps hair clean for longer.

About the barbershop
Antica Barbieria Colla has been on Via Gerolamo Morone in Milan since 1944 - and in the city, without interruption, since 1904. Dino Colla opened the original barbieria near the Duomo that year, modelled on the private gentlemen's clubs of London. The house survived two addresses and a wartime bombing; Francesca Bompieri, whose father Franco ran it from 1975, runs it today. The product line - hair, skin, beard, shaving, and four signature colognes - traces its formulations to Colla himself, each recipe passed down and quietly refined through the generations of ownership that followed. Everything is hand-made in Italy by specialists who work in direct contact with the house.
