Terrace square box medium
Hanoia
The deep green of mountain forests, the shimmering golds of ripe rice fields, and the fiery reds of twilight skies – the signature hues of the highlands – are echoed, in part, through Terrace. The untamed beauty of these landscapes is distilled and transformed into smooth planes of color, accented by a subtle, sanded texture. To craft a flawless surface through sanding demands the artisan’s expertise and precision, from choosing the right abrasive paper grit to meticulously managing hand pressure throughout the process. This mastery allows Terrace’s surface to attain an exceptional level of refinement, offering both visual depth and an engaging tactile allure.

About the workshop
Lacquer is not paint. It is built - layer by layer, sanded back, built again - a process that can run for months before a piece is finished. Hanoia was founded in Hanoi in 1997 by artists who spent years producing lacquerware for the world's great luxury houses, anonymously, before stepping forward under their own name. That apprenticeship shows. The work is immaculate.
Their artisans live and work in Vietnam's traditional lacquer villages, carrying techniques passed down through generations and refining them with each piece. Eggshell inlay. Gold leaf gilding. Hand engraving. Nothing is rushed because nothing can be. The object tells you so.
