Antica Barbieria Colla has been Milan's barbershop since 1904, still run today by the Bompieri family.

The bowl is where the ritual begins. Hard soap or shaving cream, a damp brush, circular movements until the lather is thick - the bowl is what makes that possible, what holds the soap steady and gives the brush somewhere to work.

Antica Barbieria Colla's is polished stainless steel: chosen for its weight, which keeps the bowl from tipping when the brush is inside, and for its resistance to oxidation over years of daily use. Compact enough to hold in one hand. Compact enough to travel with.

An object that asks to be used every morning.

Hand-made in Italy.

Use

Use a shaving brush and a bowl to whip the shaving cream into a nice lather. Place a small amount of the lather on the tip of the damp shaving brush and apply with a quick circular movement onto face. Shave away, repeat if needed and finish by rinsing the face with cold water. If the shaving brush is new, we recommend to leave it in water for a few hours to allow the bristles to hydrate and become more flexible. After each shave, rinse the brush thoroughly with warm water and flick brush hairs to remove stubborn water. It is advisable to wash the brush periodically using a small amount of shampoo.

About the barbershop

Antica Barbieria Colla has been on Via Gerolamo Morone in Milan since 1944 - and in the city, without interruption, since 1904. Dino Colla opened the original barbieria near the Duomo that year, modelled on the private gentlemen's clubs of London. The house survived two addresses and a wartime bombing; Francesca Bompieri, whose father Franco ran it from 1975, runs it today. The product line - hair, skin, beard, shaving, and four signature colognes - traces its formulations to Colla himself, each recipe passed down and quietly refined through the generations of ownership that followed. Everything is hand-made in Italy by specialists who work in direct contact with the house.
