About the workshop
Prempracha's Collection has shaped stoneware in San Kamphaeng, near Chiang Mai, since 1986, and is still run by the family that founded it.
Its plates, bowls and vases come in techniques with their own names - Tie Dye, where the glaze is brushed on in loose, bleeding strokes rather than laid flat; Drip Glaze, left to run and pool in the kiln; Glassy, a reactive glaze that settles differently on every piece; and Kintsugi, after the Japanese art of repairing with gold. The Rest vases were designed with the ceramicist Sarngsan Na Soontorn.
Nothing comes off a mould. The piece that arrives will not be quite like the one in the photograph - a difference that is not a flaw, but the point.

Prempracha's Collection has shaped stoneware ceramics in San Kamphaeng, near Chiang Mai, since 1986, still run today by the family that founded it.
Ceramicist Sarngsan Na Soontorn worked with the Prempracha workshop on the Rest collection: nine vase forms, each with a wide base and an opening sized for a single stem rather than an arrangement. The base does the quiet work — catching petals as a flower runs its course from bud to bloom to wither, so the whole cycle stays visible on the ceramic beneath it. Each of the nine forms carries only one glaze colour of its own.
This form comes in a matt daffodil yellow, its base 22 by 22 centimetres and 10 centimetres high. As with every piece from the workshop, it is hand-formed, so no two vases are ever quite alike.
