About the workshop

A few steps off Corso Lodi in Milan, a stationery and print shop has been open since 1909. Costante and Luigia Bonvini founded it as the neighbourhood's place for paper and ink. More than a century later, the original presses still run.

In 2014, a group of friends rescued the shop from disappearing, restoring it with architects who specialise in cultural heritage. The machines - a 19th-century platen press, an Imperial Cylinder Press, a Heidelberg Stella - were returned to working order.

Bonvini 1909 is now part print shop, part gallery, part cultural institution. Every piece carries the particular character that only a hand-fed press can produce - the slight variation, the impression in the paper, the evidence of a human hand.

$15 flat shipping, Australia-wide — free over $300.

Cabaret Typographie is a letterpress collective founded in Milan and Paris in 2010 by Laura Dal Maso, Mauro De Toffol and Tommaso Pucci, printing everything by hand from their Milan residency at Atelier Bonvini 1909 since 2022.

LEGO bricks were invented to be assembled into anything. Cabaret Typographie assembled them into type.

Milano Lego is a letterpress poster whose matrices were composed, brick by brick, from LEGO - then run through the press in two colours onto 250gsm Materica Gesso. The result carries the geometry of its own making: letterforms built on the same modular logic as a construction set, pressed permanently into paper.

Twenty-five signed and numbered copies at 50 × 35 cm, made at their atelier inside Bonvini 1909 on Via Tagliamento, Milan.

Exclusive to Australia.
