About Borgo Delle Tovaglie
The name translates, more or less, as "the village of the tablecloths" - and Borgo Delle Tovaglie has been one for a long time. It was founded as a small linen house in Bologna by the mother of Valentina Muggia, devoted to the kind of fabrics an Italian table is meant to wear. In 2005, Valentina and her husband Giuliano Di Paolo took over. They kept what was working and brought their own eye to the rest - a more eclectic, more interior-minded sensibility, traditional in appearance but unmistakably present.
The atelier still takes bespoke commissions - a customer brings a measurement, a room, a colour they have been thinking about, and the atelier makes the piece. But each seasonal collection is also made in full ahead of time, ready to ship: a spring-summer collection, an autumn-winter collection, and a small capsule each year for Christmas. The pieces stocked at The Leopard are drawn from those ready collections.
What Valentina and Giuliano have made of Borgo Delle Tovaglie is a rare thing: a textile house that still works the way a textile house used to work - by hand, in the same Bologna atelier, whether the piece is a seasonal design or a personal commission.
Stain-Resistant Linen Care Guide
This linen has been treated with Borgo delle Tovaglie's stain-resistant finish. To keep it in the best condition, follow the atelier's care instructions:
- Everyday: Clean after each use with a damp sponge.
- Washing: Wash occasionally in water or dry clean, either by hand or in the washing machine, at a moderate temperature (30°C).
- Ironing: Iron on the reverse side only, using a very hot iron, with or without steam.
- Bleach: Do not bleach.

Borgo delle Tovaglie has been hand-making linens in a Bologna atelier since 2005, run today by Valentina Muggia and Giuliano Di Paolo.
Filo is Italian for thread. It is also, more or less, the design of the placemat: a single line of contrasting cord embroidery running parallel to the edge, framing a rectangle of fine Italian linen. There is nothing else.
The whole effect is carried by that one thread. Choose the colour combinations quietly and the table reads modern and restrained; choose them sharply and the same mat reads graphic and assured.
In heavy Italian linen, with the house's stain-resistant treatment.
