Musc Charmeur - bergamot, cinnamon, tonka bean, musk, sandalwood, amber. The scent of the apothecaries off Place Rahba Kedima in the Marrakech medina, where attars are mixed by hand and amber blocks weighed in open glass jars. Bright and spiced at the top, woody at the heart, soft and slow in the base.

The Assia is a tall, narrow raffia-sleeved candle from Côté Bougie's Marrakech atelier. The raffia is crocheted by hand by the women's cooperatives Côté Bougie has worked with for years, fitted over a recycled-glass vessel and finished with a small leather tag stitched at the seam.

Soy wax, Italian cotton wicks, fragrances composed in Grasse.

Four sizes, from a small votive to a wide multi-wick large enough to scent a room. The raffia is left in its natural undyed colour.

Exclusive to Australia.

About Côté Bougie

In 2003, Saida Kadiri left a career decorating children's bedrooms in Casablanca and started making candles — first for her own house, with whatever pots and pans she had. Two years later her son Omar joined her, and Côté Bougie has been a family business in Marrakech ever since. The candles are hand-poured: soy wax, Italian cotton wicks, recycled glass. The fragrances are composed in Grasse and chosen to read as Morocco — citrus, spice, cedar. The vessels, including the olive-green ceramics of Tamegroute, are made by Moroccan artisans.

Exclusive to Australia.
