About the workshop
Prempracha's Collection has shaped stoneware in San Kamphaeng, near Chiang Mai, since 1986, and is still run by the family that founded it.
Its plates, bowls and vases come in techniques with their own names - Tie Dye, where the glaze is brushed on in loose, bleeding strokes rather than laid flat; Drip Glaze, left to run and pool in the kiln; Glassy, a reactive glaze that settles differently on every piece; and Kintsugi, after the Japanese art of repairing with gold. The Rest vases were designed with the ceramicist Sarngsan Na Soontorn.
Nothing comes off a mould. The piece that arrives will not be quite like the one in the photograph - a difference that is not a flaw, but the point.

For the Artsy range, the workshop paints each piece by hand rather than dipping it, building the black ground up in layered strokes with colour worked through by hand rather than an even glaze coat.
This smaller plate carries the same black ground and hand-painted layering, 17.3 centimetres across - sized for a starter or a side.
