About Bridie Hall
Bridie Hall grew up in New Zealand and has lived in London for twenty years, working as a decorative artist and maker whose eye keeps returning to antiquity - country houses, garden ornament, zoological forms, classical typography. In 2008 she and the designer Ben Pentreath opened a shop together at 17 Rugby Street in London; by 2013 it had become Pentreath & Hall, and she still divides her time between running it and making the objects that carry her own name.
Her own words for what she makes: things that feel as though they were carried home from a Grand Tour she never took. A plaster bust of a Roman emperor. Soap cast from an intaglio seal. Paper trays that fold flat and open printed, on the inside, with an eighteenth-century engraving. Each object borrows a fragment of something old and specific - an engraving, a coin, a piece of antique marble - and rebuilds it at a scale you can actually live with.
Some pieces are made entirely in her own London workshop; others are produced in collaboration with small studios she chooses for a particular skill - paper engineering, marbling, casting - always to her own designs. What holds the range together isn't a single material or process, but a consistent way of looking: an antiques dealer's eye for the fragment worth keeping, turned into things made new.

Bridie Hall is a London-based decorative artist who builds objects around a single idea: things that feel like they were carried home from a Grand Tour she never took.
This soap takes its form from an intaglio - the carved gemstone impressions Grand Tourists once brought home as souvenirs - cast here as a lion in profile. In antiquity, the lion stood for Rome itself: Aristotle called it, in his Historia Animalium, "liberal, noble and generous", and its ferocity was thought to protect whoever carried its image from the evil eye.
Each bar is cast in two parts and made by hand in London, one at a time.
Available in two scents: green Eucalyptus, and pink Cardamon & Mimosa. 115g.
Exclusive to Australia at The Leopard.
