Antica Barbieria Colla has been Milan's barbershop since 1904, still run today by the Bompieri family.

Beard oils have a reputation problem. The ones that work tend to leave residue - on hands, on collars, on phone screens. This one was formulated around that problem specifically.

The formula is dry in the technical sense: the oils absorb completely into the hair and skin rather than sitting on the surface. Coconut, macadamia, jojoba, argan, and sweet almond oil are all in it, along with castor oil for structure. The beard is softened, moisturised, and restructured; nothing is left behind. It is their best-selling product, and the reason younger clients with long beards choose it is practical: it does not dirty a shirt collar.

The fragrance is bitter orange - bright, slightly tart - with a secondary note that they keep to themselves.

150ml. Hand-made in Italy.

Ingredients

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Cocos Nucifera Oil [Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil], Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis Seed Oil [Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil], Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil [Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil], Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil [Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil], Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Parfum [Fragrance], BHT, Limonene, Citrus Aurantium Peel Oil, Cinnamal, Eugenol, Linalool, Linalyl Acetate, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Beta-Caryophyllene.

Use

Warm a few drops between the palms and work through the beard and moustache, massaging into the skin beneath as you go.

Because the formula absorbs completely, it can be applied more than once during the day without building up on the hair or skin.

About the barbershop

Antica Barbieria Colla has been on Via Gerolamo Morone in Milan since 1944 - and in the city, without interruption, since 1904. Dino Colla opened the original barbieria near the Duomo that year, modelled on the private gentlemen's clubs of London. The house survived two addresses and a wartime bombing; Francesca Bompieri, whose father Franco ran it from 1975, runs it today. The product line - hair, skin, beard, shaving, and four signature colognes - traces its formulations to Colla himself, each recipe passed down and quietly refined through the generations of ownership that followed. Everything is hand-made in Italy by specialists who work in direct contact with the house.
