Antica Barbieria Colla
Antica Barbieria Colla has been Milan's barbershop since 1904, still run today by the Bompieri family.
The recipe has not changed since 1945 - the year after Antica Barbieria Colla reopened at Via Gerolamo Morone, following the wartime bombing that destroyed the previous premises near La Scala. Dino Colla passed it to Franco Bompieri that year, and it has been made the same way since.
Among its clients was Franco Moschino, the Italian fashion designer whose moustache - among the most recognisable in Italian fashion - required, as the barbieria records it, frequent and accurate attention. He knew where to come.
Almond oil is the active ingredient: its high content of unsaturated fats softens both skin and beard, calms the razor's action, and leaves skin moisturised and elastic after the shave.

Ingredients
Stearic Acid, Aqua (Water), Cocos Nucifera Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, Parfum (Fragrance), Potassium Carbonate, Benzaldehyde, Terpineol
Use
Wet the brush in warm water and with it make circular movements to prepare the soap. When the brush is soaked with foam apply the soap on the face. As before, using circular movements, get a compact and homogeneous lather, then shave.
About the barbershop
Antica Barbieria Colla has been on Via Gerolamo Morone in Milan since 1944 - and in the city, without interruption, since 1904. Dino Colla opened the original barbieria near the Duomo that year, modelled on the private gentlemen's clubs of London. The house survived two addresses and a wartime bombing; Francesca Bompieri, whose father Franco ran it from 1975, runs it today. The product line - hair, skin, beard, shaving, and four signature colognes - traces its formulations to Colla himself, each recipe passed down and quietly refined through the generations of ownership that followed. Everything is hand-made in Italy by specialists who work in direct contact with the house.
