Burmese lacquerware lamp
Burmese lacquerware lamp
The Leopard
Burmese lacquerware has been made in Bagan since the eleventh century - layer upon layer of resin from the thit-si tree, applied over a turned wooden form and polished between each coat until the surface achieves the particular depth that distinguishes the craft from any imitation. The process takes weeks. The result lasts for generations.
These lamps carry that tradition into the contemporary interior. The base is a classical baluster form - full-bodied and symmetrical, its turned detailing visible beneath the lacquer's surface — finished in the red and black that have been the craft's characteristic palette for centuries. A finial rises above the cream shade, completing the silhouette. At 93 centimetres to the top of the finial, they make their presence felt without announcing themselves.
Available in red and black. Each lamp is hand-made. No two are identical.
Exclusive to Australia at The Leopard.
