Natural Bristle Shaving Brush
Natural Bristle Shaving Brush
Antica Barbieria Colla
Antica Barbieria Colla has been Milan's barbershop since 1904, still run today by the Bompieri family.
Franco Bompieri was, by his own account, a country man at heart - and with country sense came a particular respect for the pig, an animal that rural Italian tradition considered entirely valuable, no part wasted. The barbieria's shaving brush has always been made of pig bristles. That has not changed.
The bristles chosen here are natural white extra - finer and firmer than those commonly used, which means a deeper massage into the skin and a more effective working of the soap into lather. The handle is cold-drawn aluminium, each piece individually polished and smoothed by hand.
A brush made this carefully is one that lasts.

Use
Use a shaving brush and a bowl to whip the shaving cream into a nice lather. Place a small amount of the lather on the tip of the damp shaving brush and apply with a quick circular movement onto face. Shave away, repeat if needed and finish by rinsing the face with cold water. If the shaving brush is new, we recommend to leave it in water for a few hours to allow the bristles to hydrate and become more flexible. After each shave, rinse the brush thoroughly with warm water and flick brush hairs to remove stubborn water. It is advisable to wash the brush periodically using a small amount of shampoo.
About the barbershop
Antica Barbieria Colla has been on Via Gerolamo Morone in Milan since 1944 - and in the city, without interruption, since 1904. Dino Colla opened the original barbieria near the Duomo that year, modelled on the private gentlemen's clubs of London. The house survived two addresses and a wartime bombing; Francesca Bompieri, whose father Franco ran it from 1975, runs it today. The product line - hair, skin, beard, shaving, and four signature colognes - traces its formulations to Colla himself, each recipe passed down and quietly refined through the generations of ownership that followed. Everything is hand-made in Italy by specialists who work in direct contact with the house.
